The Standard of Diagnostic Clarity

Dr. Mohammed Ismail is a board-eligible psychiatrist who believes that meaningful care requires more than a standard 15-minute appointment. A graduate of Chicago Medical School, Dr. Ismail founded Amana Behavioral Health to bring a higher level of scrutiny and time to the psychiatric evaluation. He specializes in untangling complex clinical pictures, ensuring that every patient understands the biological and physiological "why" behind their treatment plan.

Molecular Precision Meets Clinical Care

Before entering clinical practice, Dr. Ismail established a foundation in high-level analytical rigor. He holds a B.S. in Biochemistry (Honors) from the University of Iowa, where his research on molecular activity was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

While this background is rooted in research, it directly informs his clinical work today. Dr. Ismail brings this same "molecular precision" to Medication Optimization, looking beyond surface-level symptoms to understand the chemical and biological drivers of mental health.

Experience in High-Stakes Psychiatry

Dr. Ismail’s clinical judgment was forged in some of the most demanding medical environments in the country. From serving as a Correctional Psychiatrist at Cermak Health Services (Cook County Health) to his diverse residency training where he treated patients at Elgin Mental Health Center (a state hospital) , he has managed complex psychiatric conditions across the full spectrum of acuity.

This experience in high-stakes, "second-opinion" settings has made him an expert in navigating cases where previous treatments may have stalled. Whether you are seeking care for the first time or looking for a fresh perspective on a long-standing concern, Dr. Ismail provides the clinical grit and diagnostic depth necessary to move forward.
